Most O&P software packages were designed by computer programmers or accountants so their primary goal was to manage the billing process and submit claims electronically. The most basic of clinical aspects, like basic clinical notes were added as an afterthought. OPIE, on the other hand, was designed by an O&P practitioner and business owner with the goal of creating a digital office that would streamline all aspects of patient care and practice management.
